Love the pieces Brenda Rosecreates. In her own words she describes her work as: "I try to combine little bits of lots of things into my pieces. This works well for me seeing as I like to sew on paper and plastic, use power tools, paint with teensy brushes, play around with Photoshop, horde scrap wood and weathered books, and draw trees and bicycles. I find it amusing and ironic to combine things like plastic with wood, and vinyl with aged book pages. Into this mix I add a little playfulness between 2D and 3D, all the while trying to keep it simple and clean (and as eco-friendly as possible). "

There is something about quilts that make you feel at home. The history that may be behind the fabrics, the details of the quilt your mother or grandmother may have made, the color combinations that you would never have put together but somehow work perfectly. I love the idea of storing quilts in a really modern corner cupboard or piece of furniture, old meets new. I have only made one quilt in my life, it was a gift for a friend and I can see how it would be addictive, the possibilities are truly endless. I am playing around with the idea of possibly making another and have been looking to Denyse Schmidt for inspiration. How beautiful are these:

erik dahlager
Last weekend my mom and I went to the Waynesboro Fall Foliage Festival, an annual juried art show held in the streets of Waynesboro. There were some incredibly talented artists there and I have to admit I came home with a few goodies. One artist that really caught my eye was Erik Dahlager, who through a process called gumoil printing, creates these truley unique photo prints. I tried to find the two I bought on his site but dont see them on there so picked a couple other favorites as an example of his work to show below.

I am constantly amazed by how many incredible artists are located here in Charlottesville. A long time favorite, Tavia, creates the most amazing jewelry. Each piece is so unique and I love the vintage meets modern meets funky feel. I have a bracelet and on the inside is a haiku poem that reads
weaving vines blossom
silvery flesh soft with life
hardness grasps my breath

super. freaking. awesome.
Not only is Kiki Slaughter an amazing person but she is so incredibly talented. These painting look pretty cool in the photos but to see them in person is a must. The balance she acheives between color, texture, and depth are perfect. Simply put: I want one!
